Michael Yoshitaka Erlewine: Getting into The Loop

The magic behind WordPress is how it processes queries and gives you the results via “The Loop.” The Loop can be hijacked for a variety of custom uses and these techniques can quickly expand the capacity of WordPress to present information in different ways. Mitcho covers The Loop, as well as PHP tips which help introspect WordPress during lower-level development.
