+1000 upvotes for mentioning Advanced Custom Fields. It’s an essential tool in any WP Dev’s toolbox.
I also recommend Custom Post Type UI for creating your custom post types and taxonomies, rather than hacking your functions file. Could just be a personal preference.
Finally, to change your Custom Post Type icon from the default Page or Pin icon, there’s this nice little collection of 3,000 icons created for just that purpose:
